*Sport and physical fitness: Who says that a child does not have to exercise? Yanate has prided herself of constantly staying physically fit and believes it is important for kids to be physically active. They have to continuously exercise and eat well to keep fit and stay healthy.
A wide range of sports and team games will be available and attention will be paid to individual fitness and skills.
Basketball, relay races, dodge ball, softball, 500, obstacle fitness course and athletics are included.
There will be a sports day in which KKC teams compete at the end of each course and these events will provide an exciting climax to the clubs sports programs.
Visits/Excursions: Visits are part of the program, in order to give the kids insights into modern and historical Nigeria, its arts and culture. Places which will be visited will include:
v Motherless babies homes
v Trekking at Aso rock
v Julie Useni Park, Garki.
v Wildlife Park
v Abuja Millennium Park
v The FTC council for art and culture museum
v Wonderland
v Maitama amusement park
There will also be other recreational and optional activities including bowling, eating at restaurants, going to theme parks, drawing and painting, Kiddie games and puzzles, movies, and shopping!
Music: During Chinny's university days she was able to take voice and chorus sessions. It is important for children still growing; who have the potential to sing to develop their God given talent to its full potential. There will be sessions of 'Sing! Sing! And Sing some more!', where the kids choose a song and we will all sing along together.
Etiquette/finishing classes: Every parent wants to see that their children have proper manners in everything that they do. Simple aspects of etiquette include, table manners, the 'yes pleases', and the 'no thank you’s”. Funny enough we were both reluctant when our parents enrolled us in etiquette and cooking classes, but now we see why it was important to our parents. We assure you that other people will look at your kids and wonder what planet they have come from...that is what KKC endeavors to achieve. All the children must have manners.
Home economics
Cooking: We are sure you would like your kids to be able to survive when they are on their own without mummy and daddy and be able to put something together to eat. This will help when they finally go off to their various colleges. We both know taking cooking classes certainly helped us!
The children will learn how to make snacks, treats, sweet and savory dishes, incorporating an increased level of skills as the course proceeds. Sometimes a take -away bowl or plate will be necessary- otherwise they may consume their results on site.
We will use the opportunity to show that there are always healthier options when it comes to meals and snacks.
Cleanliness/personal hygiene: The children will be taught how to be clean. They will be reminded of the importance of washing their hands after using the bathroom, making sure they take a shower in the morning and at night, and brushing their teeth even when mummy or nanny is not looking over their shoulders, and having their nails cut and clean and much more.
Movie day: The kids will watch a movie during some of the sessions and will be required to write a review - sometimes these reviews will be in form of a group discussion. All movies will be appropriate for their ages and PG only -Mostly Disney classics.
First aid: We both volunteered at the American Red Cross in both Boston and DC. We were able to get some experience on handling mundane emergencies using the first aid kit. When there's an emergency, at least you know your child can lend a hand.
Understanding and care of the body: A look at various aspects of body, hair, and skin care. A series of outside demonstrations.
Play/drama: During each club Season, groups will be required to act out a play. This might be something they make up or a play that they took a liking to.
Dance X press: A fun, fast, and fabulous fusion of dance styles will be used to choreograph routines to the latest chart and disco tunes. This will serve not only as a work out but a means for the kids to find expression in dance.
