ACADEMIC STUDY

ACADEMIC STUDY: ENGLISH LANGUAGE
It is essential that every child knows how to read and write clearly. We believe that it is very important especially in a country where reading is not taken very seriously. So why not start now! Your children can become great authors/literary icons in the future.
Sub courses.
Book club: There will be two assigned books for every Club Season. Every Saturday, each child will read a section from a chapter making sure we get to the end of each chapter before a certain time. The children will be given assignments to gain an understanding of what the child derived from his/her reading. This will improve their reading and writing skills tremendously.
English conversation: The children will be taught conversational English. They will be able to learn the art of conversation required in day to day social life, such as greetings, requests, thanks, regrets, apologies, and enquiries.
Poem recitals: Children will recite poems and we will all have discussions on what our thoughts are on the poem.
Debate: This section is to teach the kids the art of putting together an argument and expressing opinions politely. The children will be given topics and will be broken up into groups where they will make a collective argument and present it to everyone. This will improve their speech and for those who are shy will significantly erode their fear of speaking in public places. The target is to create great orators out of them.
The world today: Some time will be taken out each session and dedicated to current world issues. This is to spark an interest in the kids and make them more aware of what is going on around them. “Know Your Country and the World around You”, will be our dictum.
Essay: Every month during each club season, each child will be assigned an essay (expectations varying for each age group). There will be the option for the child to generate the essay topic; however the topic will have to be approved by us. There will be a due-date for drafts, as every child must submit a draft. This is to ensure that each child is actually working on the essay, and to make some corrections and notes on the draft copy before they hand in the final copy. Parents should see that their children do this. It will improve their writing skills, and also make the kids more comfortable writing in school.
Vocabulary: Every Saturday there will be an assigned “KKC word”. Each child is required to learn the new word, understand the meaning of the word, and remember the word for the next club session
Speech and diction: The children will learn to communicate through speeches, conversations, and group work. You will notice the difference in the accents of your children.
They will also be required to write letters, keep diaries, and compose short essays on different topics during the course.
