I have always been a caring person and from my adolescent years have been enthusiastic about child care. It has been a childhood dream to help and care for kids in any way I can. I am happiest being with children and over the years, I have noticed that children are naturally drawn to me.
When I was growing up, I noticed how my mum was always searching for an ideal program that will offer us a learning environment in an atmosphere of fun, she didn't always succeed! KKC is our way of filling this needed void in our society whilst ensuring that our dream to give back to children is actualized. I have no doubt that, the various experiences I have had working with children of all ages and the courses I studied at the University of Massachusetts Boston stand me in good stead to deliver this service efficiently to your children through KKC!
One of the courses I majored in during my university years was philosophy which means the “love of wisdom”. I was opportuned to learn a lot about; the way people think, why people act and behave the way they do, and I was able to understand the human mind set in a deep way. For the first time, I had an appreciation of the saying, “your attitude is what determines your altitude and Your Altitude (expertise/height you get to in life) is 20% knowledge and 80% attitude!” I was also privileged to take courses that specifically helped me understand children better and learn how to bring out the GIANT IN A CHILD. Courses like; child development, sociology, nutrition, and psychology. These courses helped in broadening my knowledge on people and children in particular.
I have also volunteered in various motherless babies homes abroad and in Nigeria. During my high school years at the British international school Lagos my class mates and I were made to visit various motherless babies’ homes during the weekend where we had to take care of kids, feed them, entertain them and bathe them.
I volunteered also with various nongovernmental organizations abroad, including, Red Cross, Oxfam America, Big brother Big sister. I specifically enjoyed the volunteer experience I had with Big Brother Big Sister where I had to be a big sister to young girls. I took them out to play at parks, helped them with their homework, and many more.
I have also been severally entrusted with looking after children of friends and family. The experience I had with caring for children and ensuring that they are safe, was one of the best times of my life. Not only did it make me feel like a child again, but it brought me joy to know that I was able to care for them in a way that made a positive impact on them/brought out the best in them and, their parents were always pleasantly surprised at the excitement, and spring in the steps of their children after our forays together. It gave me joy to know that I was helping mothers who had to work or who wanted a few hours of rest.
My parents found it crucial to make sure that my siblings and I attended summer camps, both in Geneva, and Scotland. The invaluable experiences I got from attending these camps are part of the motivation for starting KKC.
I am already looking forward with great anticipation to the joy I will derive from being with your children, spending time with them, getting to know them as individuals with their own unique potentials, building their self-worth and seeing the great joy that I will bring into your lives when you come to appreciate my work and effort. It will certainly be an honor to spend time with your kids. I promise that I will do more than my best in ensuring that your kids take something substantial home.
I hope that the kids will see me more as a big sister and a role model. KKC intends to be a family oriented type club. I am sure I can work together with your kids and we will come out with a bang!
