NO ACT OF KINDNESS, HOWEVER SMALL, IS EVER WASTED

  • Please as much as possible try and give to the needy. It is quite simple, you can always go on websites pertaining to kids or any other cause you are interested in and make donations. There are different ways to help, you could volunteer, make petitions, sign petitions, fundraisers for an organization or a cause and so much more.
  • kyas has applied to donate to LINKACHILD Nigeria. Linkachild is a not-for-profit organization whose primary focus is to partner with organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life for orphans and abandoned children, meeting their needs in the areas of health care, education, shelter, food and clothing. Every little donation counts. You can click on this direct link to make your donations http://www.linkachild.org/donation.php

PROJECT HAPPINESS

This weekend, on Saturday to be precise, kyas is going to be attending a charity event called "project happiness" it is a fundraising event aimed at helping kids who are underprivileged. I thought it would be good for the kids to join in helping underprivileged children. This Will help them understand and realise that there is more to life. It will also get them to appreciate who they are and what they have, and never complain about anything, because compared to these guys who we will be helping this weekend they are very comfortable.

Project happiness is taking place in Abuja this Saturday. They will be needing donations of food, candy, small toys, stationary, books, and toiletries to enable them to reach their goal of 1000 people. Please if you read this early enough and you leave in Abuja bring anything you can and tell your friends and family. All donations can be dropped at cafe 24, wuse 2. please call Judy on 08051602165 or Jeff on 08187085780 for further information. please broadcast and help make a child :)

People always ask..what exactly do you do at kyas kids club?
we have a bunch of activities set up every week for the kids to partake in. on Fridays we try as much as possible to make sure that we do something educational but in a fun way. Thanks to Yanate, she brings a lot of ideas to the table. I have to say shes really good with the kids. whenever she steps out for a second the kids always ask "where is auntie Yanate, we miss her?" awwwww aren't they so adorable. Anyway, i digress, so Fridays we do educational stuff like etiquette lessons, nutrition lessons, manners, reading, movies and movie reviews, writing, drawing, and so much more. On Saturday's we try to do activities that involve lots of fun and eating....doesn't that just sound good! swimming, movies, barbecues, cooking lessons, picnics, parks, restaurants, theme parks, and much more. This Saturday, we have a charity event to attend, and i am sure the kids are going to enjoy it. Anyway here are some more pictures.

FROM MS YANATE BANIGO- CO FOUNDER KKC

Born in a house constantly filled with nieces, nephews, and cousins I have had no Choice other than becoming fond of children. My love for kids must have started when I began playing with dolls. I would go nowhere without mine; feed, clothe, and pamper her. My mother tried other toys to try and pry me from my doll but there was no separating the two of us.
Throughout my life, the love I have for kids has followed me. I attended the American School in Surrey from the age of thirteen. It was then part of our curriculum to participate in community service. Some would take care of the elderly, clean the parks, volunteer in our school kitchen but I chose to help out in the fourth grade classroom three times a week. Every term we would also have to pick a school trip to attend and as my peers chose to go to Ibiza, Monaco, Greece, I opted to go to Russia where we would spend the week at an orphanage.
On holidays in Nigeria my mom showed us the importance of giving back. We would spend some days during the break visiting orphanages and even once went to a children's hospice. Here I learnt one of the key lessons that I use in my everyday endeavors, “You do not get to choose the family or life you are born into, it is a privilege not a right, so be grateful each day”.
In college, I continued to find a way I could gain more experience in the field of working with kids. Although I spent my weeks in the George Washington University library with my head buried in Economic and Political Science books, I spent my weekends volunteering for jumpstart, a national organization specializing in helping kids from low income neighborhoods with development, language, and social skills.
During the week I would volunteer at the Red Cross branch located on my campus. All in all I have a give back spirit. I am fun to be with but at the same time responsible. I have been blessed in my life to have had the opportunity to learn whilst mixing with different environments, cultures, and people.  I have an undeniable love for kids, their curiosity, innocence, and willingness to learn. I would love the chance to share some of my wisdom with your kids.

FROM MS CHINNY-CO FOUNDER KKC

I have always been a caring person and from my adolescent years have been enthusiastic about child care. It has been a childhood dream to help and care for kids in any way I can. I am happiest being with children and over the years, I have noticed that children are naturally drawn to me.
When I was growing up, I noticed how my mum was always searching for an ideal program that will offer us a learning environment in an atmosphere of fun, she didn't always succeed! KKC is our way of filling this needed void in our society whilst ensuring that our dream to give back to children is actualized. I have no doubt that, the various experiences I have had working with children of all ages and the courses I studied at the University of Massachusetts Boston stand me in good stead to deliver this service efficiently to your children through KKC!
One of the courses I majored in during my university years was philosophy which means the love of wisdom. I was opportuned to learn a lot about; the way people think, why people act and behave the way they do, and I was able to understand the human mind set in a deep way. For the first time, I had an appreciation of the saying, your attitude is what determines your altitude and Your Altitude (expertise/height you get to in life) is 20% knowledge and 80% attitude! I was also privileged to take courses that specifically helped me understand children better and learn how to bring out the GIANT IN A CHILD. Courses like; child development, sociology, nutrition, and psychology. These courses helped in broadening my knowledge on people and children in particular.
I have also volunteered in various motherless babies homes abroad and in Nigeria. During my high school years at the British international school Lagos my class mates and I were made to visit various motherless babies homes during the weekend where we had to take care of kids, feed them, entertain them and bathe them.
I volunteered also with various nongovernmental organizations abroad, including, Red Cross, Oxfam America, Big brother Big sister. I specifically enjoyed the volunteer experience I had with Big Brother Big Sister where I had to be a big sister to young girls. I took them out to play at parks, helped them with their homework, and many more.
I have also been severally entrusted with looking after children of friends and family. The experience I had with caring for children and ensuring that they are safe, was one of the best times of my life. Not only did it make me feel like a child again, but it brought me joy to know that I was able to care for them in a way that made a positive impact on them/brought out the best in them and, their parents were always pleasantly surprised at the excitement, and spring in the steps of their children after our forays together. It gave me joy to know that I was helping mothers who had to work or who wanted a few hours of rest.
My parents found it crucial to make sure that my siblings and I attended summer camps, both in Geneva, and Scotland. The invaluable experiences I got from attending these camps are part of the motivation for starting KKC.
I am already looking forward with great anticipation to the joy I will derive from being with your children, spending time with them, getting to know them as individuals with their own unique potentials, building their self-worth and seeing the great joy that I will bring into your lives when you come to appreciate my work and effort. It will certainly be an honor to spend time with your kids. I promise that I will do more than my best in ensuring that your kids take something substantial home.
I hope that the kids will see me more as a big sister and a role model. KKC intends to be a family oriented type club. I am sure I can work together with your kids and we will come out with a bang!

IS KYAS KIDS CLUB AN NGO?

NO! kyas kids club is not a non profit organization, however quite a lot of people have asked if it was, saying that what we do makes it seem like it is. I would like to say it is, but because we charge it isn't, I'm sorry to say, its not free, however it is quite affordable, in fact very affordable. We offer so much to the kids, and most of the time keep the kids after hours when they cry to stay, we have had a lot of kids crying that they don't want to go home, its nice to know that they are really having fun, but i digress, i guess what i am trying to say here is that considering the type of activities we do, it is no doubt that kyas fees is very affordable. We even give discounts. The most important thing parents have to realize is that my partner Yanate and i love kids so much. We are Young girls who really could be doing other things with our time, but we have decided to spend our time working with kids and helping them in any way that we can. There is more value in doing this than anything else.

Kyas kids club is not a non governmental organization, but like all other NGOs pertaining to children, we care, and love kids just as much as they do, and we are willing to take into consideration parents who cannot afford the club, so please do email us or call us if you would like you kids/s to join but do not have the means to.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE SO FAR?

So its been six weeks since the opening of Kyas kids club and we have done so much. Every Friday and Saturday we have different activities for the kids to partake in. Its funny but not surprising that when we have an activity which is educational the kids are always a bit non-chalant about it, i guess that is why they are kids, these kids just want to play and play and play and eat candy and ice cream, but we are trying not to spoil them too much, it can be hard, cause we do not want to say NO! but we know we have to say no sometimes. If we let them have their way all the time these kids would literally have ten cones of ice cream in a day, as well as candy, etc. During our nutrition class we taught them how to eat healthy, and we have to make sure they practice what we are teaching them.

kids learning how to make ricke krispies marshmallows. They where also taught how to make meatballs and spaghetti, baked m&m cookies, and vanilla and chocolate milkshakes...yum yum!!!!

kids making meatballs. Malaikia kept complaining about how she disliked the smell of meatballs, but she consumed quite a lot of it. oh malaika!! we still love her though!! :)

kids making pinatas. It was Mexican day. so they learnt about the Mexican culture, what they eat, how they dance, the music they like and lots more. We also had swimming lessons on this day too. fun fun fun!!
